Artist's Statement
l’ve been using crayons to speak my mind since I was child, sitting at my grandmother’s kitchen table drawing out my questions and daydreams.
When I finished a drawing I would place it at the edge of the table near the doorway so when my mom comes to pick my brother and I up after work, she would see what I had to say before all of her mom questions. I never thought that drawing with crayons would be how I spoke to the world.
My name is Kenneth Jordan II, I am a Southern American artist and art educator from Pensacola Florida. I work primarily in crayon, pushing wax medium in a new direction within the realm of contemporary realism, exploring themes related to spirituality, personal narrative, the human figure, and family. I work in layers of color, each holding its own value beyond aesthetics, employing additive and subtractive methods to achieve a rich surface. My current body of work navigates the space of personal relationships and the impact these relationships shape my perception in life.
My drawings are addressed to the child I once was, the child within me today, and the vibrant spirit of youth that unites us all. These visual letters embody a tapestry of memories, and the cherished values I aim to share with others.
Kenneth Jordan II
Kenneth Jordan II is a Southern American artist and art educator from Pensacola Florida. After earning his B.F.A. in 2015 from the University of West Florida, Kenneth maintains a studio practice here in Pensacola. Kenneth works primarily in crayon and pushes his wax medium in a new direction within the realm of contemporary realism, exploring themes related to spirituality, personal narrative, the human figure, and family.
His current body of work navigates the space of personal relationships and the impact they have on perception in life.
Kenneth’s drawings have been in numerous exhibitions and auctions throughout the Gulf Coast, including O What a Night! Gala in New Orleans, “Taking a line for a Walk: 100 Years of Drawing and Printmaking” at the Pensacola Museum of Art, “Yr.8” Solo exhibition at the Artel Gallery, and “Table 7” a group exhibition at the TAG gallery at the University of West Florida.
